Sonia Blanco: “My most significant contribution has been to show that a woman can also manage a production plant”

Sonia Blanco is the sole manager of a production plant for Cupa Pizarras. She has been managing the morning shifts at Carpisa for a year now and will soon have been in the company for seven years, where she began as a packer.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

It is an important day for us, for the recognition that we are just as capable as men and that we are seen in the same way.

How has the role of women changed in your sector or during your professional career?

Things are moving slowly, but we are gradually being given opportunities.

Nowadays we cut, saw and manage a shift. In the past, women only cut, packaged and selected the slate.

Have you ever experienced any difficulties in your career due to being a woman?

In my case no. I have had both the opportunities and the luck to find myself with people who have seen my potential and thanks to my efforts, work and the trust people have had in me, I have been able to access the position I now hold.

What would you consider to be your most significant contribution to Cupa Pizarras?

Showing that a woman can also manage a production plant.

Why would you recommend forming part of Cupa Group to other women?

Because the company takes work and effort into account when giving opportunities and it has shown that we are equal to men.
